There was a study in the European Journal of Medical Research back in 2003 that claimed using some active Manuka Honey instead of antibiotic creams under dressings on post operative wounds was 85% better in clearing up infections; normal antibiotic creams only had a 50% rate.

And because of its healing properties, it is also known to help with certain skin conditions like dermatitis, eczema and more. A spoonful of Manuka Honey can be effective for sore throats, taking a teaspoon every two or three hours until the symptoms stop.

When buying Manuka Honey for medicinal purposes, it is good to know that there is a rating system for it, with less than a 10 rating making it just okay for treating things, but it might not fully clear or help the ailment. This is because the honey doesn’t have as much of the antibacterial action to really reach deep to treat the infection. Experts suggest opting for Active Manuka Honey with a rating of 10 or higher to really see its medicinal benefits. Manuka Honey with ratings of 10+, 15+ or 20+ if you are going to use it for its healing properties.

Normal Manuka Honey is also great for daily use and is delicious to use in teas and as a natural sweetener.
